Creating Kickstarter

This Kickstarter page will be my presentation of my work. Using Kickstarter is simple. They arrange several optional tabs for you to fill out for ease of design. It doesn’t take long to have the whole page filled and ready to go. I made up some rewards based on other Kickstarters.

These include (dependent on your reward tier):

Title Sequence – Rough Draft

The first draft of my title sequence. I originally wanted to make these scenes out of images stitched together and colour graded and animated in after effects. However due to time constraints, and lack of viable assets to use I decided to use the Source Film Maker and uses assets taken directly from the Dead By Daylight game. This allowed me to play more with camera shots a try my hand at 3d animation. I felt like it worked mostly apart from the shadow scene where the pickup action looks way too weightless.

Title Card – Rough Draft

Creating the title card started out with some sketches of what I thought could work for the title card, though these were very simple all 3 helped design the final design. It is worth mentioning that the text in all of these does not relate to the idea, but more so a placeholder for the position.

Sketches 3

The first sketch was designed to have the logo inside somewhat of a red glow with an effect similar to a bloodshot eye. I wanted to have it slowly expand out over the course of the soundtrack. However, during my creation of this, I found that the glow looked too cheesy against the white text and the bloodshot didn’t sit right.

Sketches 2

My second design I wanted to create a scene behind the text using masking layer for the font I would use. I experimented with this briefly as I wanted a motion within the text. Although the original design didn’t become true I discovered the method of fractal noise that I went with instead.

The entity is the key focus when it comes to Dead By Daylights lore. However recreating the entity became somewhat of a mess when animating in a title card. The entity is something I believe belongs more in the title sequence than animated in with text.

When designing the draft, I started playing about with the elements I liked the most. Once I had chosen a random font I tried to create the effects above. I started with the background mask and stumbled across the fractal noise effect. I then changed the font to something more fitting for the effect and worked from there. I next tried to make the bloodshot effect, but the red looked extremely cheesy, so instead I opted to change it into a glow and an additional blur of the text. Having the entity wrap around the text did not work with this theme. So instead I decided to add the fog creeping in at the edges using a solid, oval mask and fractal noise.

To finish off I wanted to make it seem like orange embers burning to white so I added curves to the text to accomplish this.

Music / Soundtrack Research and Tests

00:00 – Dead By Daylight Theme
09:22 – Petrified
42:09 – Black Blood

These three soundtracks i though could be broken down and mashed together to create the soundtrack for my 30 second sting. Using Petrified and Black Blood as the potential introductions and finish off with either the piano or the guitar intros from the Dead By Daylight Theme.

The first track is the Piano version. I felt that petrified worked well but the random clang in the build up of the main theme knocked off the build up of the rhythm. The intro to the piano is a bit sudden, but also works in that regard. It will be dependant of how my title card turns out to see if it fits better.

The second track is the version with the acoustic guitar intro. Black Blood builds up suspense and with the suspense accent in the middle allows for a smooth transition into the overlay of the Main theme and an easy cross fade for when the guitar comes in. If my title theme will gently fade in then I believe this sound track will fit better.

Budgeting

Below you will see the pie chart infographic I will be using for my Kickstarter page and my reasonings behind my budget. Due to lack official documentation, I have made entire estimates on what I would need based on other Kickstarter projects. However, many Kickstarter projects are extremely low amounts and require low budgets to make, such as sitcoms and documentaries. Therefore, where I can I have gone to the source for standard rates for some items of the budget.
